Downtown St. Clair Shores hosted Its First Annual Turkey Trot

ST CLAIR SHORES: Downtown St. Clair Shores hosted the very first annual Turkey Trot. The event was free for adults and children under the age of twelve. The runners ran a pre-planned 1/4-mile course through the downtown area. This was the inaugural Turkey Trot, so timing was not going to be an issue. If there is interest, however, the event might be changed for next year to include a time event for the participants.

Each participant was to run or walk the predetermined route, circling the course four times, for a total of one mile. Everyone who participated in the Turkey Trot received a medal that was handed out at the end of the event. Kids under twelve, for each completed lap, received a rubber bracelet for each lap. The bracelets can be traded in for a prize.

In collaboration with Philly’s Original Cheesesteaks, Rondo Real Estate organized the inaugural Turkey Trot for the city of St. Clair Shores. But the people who set up the event are Angela Washington and Phil Washington. “I have always enjoyed planning events, so it has been a pretty smooth process,” Angela Washington said in an email about the event.

Along with the Turkey Trot, there were other family-friendly events to participate in. For both adults and children, a scavenger hunt. The participants were given a sheet of paper with clues, and their job was to find the answers to the clues.

Following the scavenger event, participants could enter in a drawing for prizes. Kids who participated in the scavenger hunt could win fall books and toys. A turkey from Shores Meat Shoppe, which was donated to the event, was up for grabs for the adults who participated. The 9 Mack Merchants Association donated 25 downtown dollars to the event. The drawing for the prize was to be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024.

There was a kid zone for the kids to have fun and be entertained. Doughnuts and cider were provided by The Rustic Root Design Co. DJ Tony Jacobson was on hand to keep the event lively. On a cool November evening, the Lucy Brown Seville band concluded the event.
